Successful Tax Refunds
Helpful Information for a Successful Tax Refund Direct Deposit
What happens when you only have to do a certain task once a year? The answer is that you may overlook some of the finer details!
Each year, we receive many phone calls and digital banking messages from members asking where their tax refund is only to find out that the tax return included incorrect or outdated account information, which naturally causes delays (probably during a time when you are really needing the deposit too) in receiving the deposit and also frustrations (because you probably were anticipating that deposit for needs and wants).
Here are some useful tips to avoid any delay in receiving your automatically deposited tax refund:
1. The “Routing number” for Maine Savings is 211288064.
2. When asked for the “Type” of account: Select “Checking” if you are using the account number located at the bottom of your checks or if the account number you are using starts with 70044; or select “Savings” if you are using your base account number.
Super helpful hint: If you don’t use checks but use Digital Banking, under “Accounts”, click on your RedWallet Checking, then click on Account Details. Once in Account Details, you will see a line called “MICR NUMBER” and this is the number you will use for deposits you want directed to your checking account.
3. Ensure that the “Account number” is correct.
Another super helpful hint: Double and triple check the “Account number” to make sure that the number is correct (did we say this already?). We see numbers transposed more often than you would think and there is nothing more frustrated to get this news when you have been waiting (and waiting) for your direct deposit to post to your account. Also, make sure the account is an active account (and not one that you closed and forgot that you closed). We see a lot of tax refund deposits returned due the account listed on the tax refund being closed causing delays for you in receiving the refund.
4. Lastly, you can verify the status of your refund by going to https://www.irs.gov/refunds, or calling 1-800-829-1040.
